Annie (Quvenzhané Wallis) is a young, happy foster kid who's also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they'd be back for her someday, it's been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). But everything's about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) - advised by his brilliant VP, Grace (Rose Byrne) and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor, Guy (Bobby Cannavale) - makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in. Stacks believes he's her guardian angel, but Annie's self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it's the other way around.

otsoNY Comments: If you are a resident of New York City, you would have certainly noticed in that some films which have been shot there do not always keep to geographic locations and how characters can be in one area and then in the next moment be in a completely different area. The opening montage sequence in Annie is a perfect example. The film opens with Annie leaving her school, which we assume is supposed to be in Harlem, but is in fact on the lower East Side at 11th Street between Avenue A and 1st Avenue. The journey she is about to undertake would take a roughly 35 minutes to walk from 11th Street to Franklin Street using 1st Avenue, to East Housten Street to Broadway and then down Franklin Street. Her incredible journey will take her from mid-afternoon to late evening. She begins it by running from her school on East 11th Street towards 1st Avenue. Next there are some close up shots, after which, Annie is now seen running passed number 501 on West 133 Street, before another cut which teleports her to the East Village at East 11th and Avenue A, almost back to where she started. This is where she convinces a tourist to allow her to use up for CitiBike credit. We see her ride off in the direction of 1st Avenue, but in the next shot she has managed to reach 125th Street, where she boards the metro and once again heads downtown. She exits the train at 42nd Street and runs through the subway. Somehow though... moments later she emerges from Franklin Street subway... by which time it is nightfall.
